Ahead of the first T20 International against Bangladesh on November 3, Rohit Sharma in a press conference on Thursday shunned any news about Mahendra Singh Dhoni's retirement. Sharma, who will be leading the side in T20 in the absence of Virat Kohli, said that there is no truth in the retirement stories and some media houses are playing it unnecessarily. Earlier on Thursday, Bangladesh players were seen practicing in Delhi with masks on amidst the increased pollution in the city.

Rohit Sharma to lead in T20

Rohit Sharma arrived in Delhi on Thursday, addressed a press conference and said, "I have never heard these retirement rumours. It is you (media) that builds these rumours and then you only ask questions about it." Sharma also spoke about Sourav Ganguly being elected as the new BCCI President and said that he has known Dada for so many years and have played along with him for India and in IPL and we discussed only on selection of the team when we met. Virat Kohli was rested for the T20 series against Bangladesh and Sharma was selected to lead the side. Kohli will, however, return to the team to lead the Test side against Bangladesh. When queried about the pollution crisis in Delhi, he said, "I have just landed in Delhi, I haven’t had the time to asses the situation and as far as we know the match is scheduled for November 3 and it’ll happen on 3rd."

BCCI gives green light

The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) gave a go-ahead for the first T20 game between India and Bangladesh scheduled to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi amid worrying pollution levels in the city. The quality of air in the nation's capital reached hazardous levels after the festival of Diwali following which multiple pleas were made to the Board to shift the venue. The BCCI, however, has decided to stick to its plan and has given a green light for the match to take place as scheduled in Delhi. Questions are continuing to be posed to BCCI as to how the players will be able to play a complete 40-over contest as Bangladesh players were seen training at the Arun Jaitley Stadium wearing masks to protect themselves from the polluted air.
