ICC seeks $23.7 million dues from BCCI for hosting T20 World Cup in 2016: Report

In a teleconference meeting on March 27, the ICC and BCCI decided to send the compensation matter to the world body’s disputes resolution committee.

International Cricket Council (ICC), along with a few or board members reportedly held a teleconference meeting on Friday, March 28. meeting was also attended by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly. According to reports, ICC is claiming a compensation of $23.7 million from BCCI after apex body had to bear costs of Indian government’s refusal to waive tax proceeds from 2016 ICC World Twenty20 event in India. In teleconference, BCCI and ICC decided to send matter to world body’s disputes resolution committee.

ICC and BCCI takes ‘compensation situation’ to disputes panel

After Indian board failed to get tax waiver from Indian government, ICC attempted to cut down annual revenue of BCCI in order to recover amount. Earlier reports indicate that ICC threatened BCCI with taking away hosting rights of upcoming ICC events if latter failed to get tax relief. As per upcoming cricketing calendar, BCCI is scheduled to host 2021 ICC T20 World Cup and 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in India.

T20 World Cup status

Ar subject of meeting was upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played in Australia this year between October 18 and vember 15. However, ongoing crisis caused by coronavirus has already delayed international cricketing schedule by several months. A board executive said that ICC and or board members will review situation of T20 World Cup in ir next meeting.
