ICC suspends UAE's Ashfaq Ahmed for involvement in corruption scandal
ICC recently suspended UAE cricketer Ashfaq Ahmed for his involvement in the corruption scandal. Last week, ICC suspended three of UAE's senior members as well.

Amidst the ongoing corruption scandal that struck UAE cricket, ICC just suspended another Emirati cricketer in the wake of his involvement in the controversy. UAE batsman Ashfaq Ahmed is now suspended by the top governing body in regards to the controversy that hit the UAE national team last week. The top-order batsman is now being placed under provisional suspension by the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB). As of now, the right-handed batsman is not facing any official charges.

ICC suspends fourth UAE cricketer
Just last week, ICC suspended two more Emirati cricketers, Mohammad Naveed and Shaiman Anwar on charges of attempts to “fix” the ongoing ICC World T20 Qualifiers matches. Senior all-rounder, Qadeer Ahmed was also issued the penalty for allegedly disclosing inside information to bookies. Mohammad Naveed was indicted by the ICC for failing to report an ‘approach’ made to him by a ‘fixer’. The right-arm medium pacer admitted that he made a mistake for not reporting the same to the cricket governing body.
Emirates Cricket Board on player’s suspension
An ECB spokesperson sent out a press release with further details about the suspension. While speaking with the press, the ECB reported that cricketer Ashfaq Ahmed has been provisionally suspended with immediate effect. They also mentioned that no formal charges were laid against the 34-year old and they will wait till the proceedings are concluded.
Ashfaq Ahmed has represented UAE in 16 ODIs and 12 T20I matches. The right-handed top-order batsman has scored 344 runs in ODI’s and 238 runs in the shortest format of the game. He has registered five international half-centuries in both formats combined.
2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier
UAE are currently hosting the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier, a tournament conducted to determine which associate teams will be included in the ICC World T20 in Australia next year. A total of 14 nations will be participating in this 14-day event which was previously conducted in 2015.
