Australia's batting general Steve Smith, who has made tons of runs batting at number 3 and 4 in Tests, recently dwelled on stepping up the order ladder. Smith has taken the opening slot as the veteran opener David Warner has bid farewell to the game. So far Smith hasn't been able to display the usual consistency as an opener, but the star batter isn't "fazed" by the change in his batting order and looks determined to contribute to the team in the new role.

Steve Smith on his changed batting position

Steve Smith's performance at the top of the order hasn't been convincing. He averaged 28.5 in the culminated series against West Indies and admitted that he could have added more. However, it wasn't entirely a flop show, the right-hander showcased glimpses of coming back in the form in the gritty knock of 91, that he played in the second Test. Paying heed to his tweaked position smith said"

“You’ll have to ask the men in charge but I’m not fussed either way,” Smith was quoted as saying by Code Sports.

“Some challenging conditions with the new ball, in particular. So I would have liked to score a few more runs," Smith added.

“That’s the game sometimes but I played pretty well in the second innings at the Gabba where we couldn’t get over the line, unfortunately. It’s just a position to me so it doesn’t really faze me too much.”

Vying for an IPL return

Steve Smith also weighed in on being snubbed from Australia's T20I side and refused to go expressive on it as it was the selectors' call. Following an exceptional show in the MLC, where he led Washington Freedom to the title, Smith is contemplating a return to the IPL, confirming his entry in the upcoming IPL 2025 auction.

"I don’t know about international T20 stuff. You’ll have to ask the selectors there," Smith noted.

“I was disappointed not to be in the World Cup but that’s the way things go. They wanted all the big hitters.”

On the back of this solid run, the Aussie star was positive about his IPL prospects.

“I’d love to be part of the IPL again, for sure. I’ll be putting my name in the hat so just have to keep scoring runs. You never know, we’ll see what happens.”
