Under the captain Rohit Sharma, coached by Gautam Gambhir, India recently finished a dismal 2-0 loss to Sri Lanka in the ODI series. As they get ready for the Champions Trophy in 2025, the team's disappointing performance begs questions about the necessity of strategic development and a stronger competitive edge to guarantee a better result in the next events. This was India’s first-ever series loss after they lifted the T20 World Cup. However, their main focus now lies on the 50-over format.

Fan’s Champions Trophy comment makes Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer laugh hard

When a spectator casually asked India's captain, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer to win the next ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, they couldn't help but chuckle. Emphasising the need of earning the next ICC championship, the fan looked unconcerned even though India just lost to Sri Lanka in the three-match ODI series.

Notably, the Men in Blue won an ICC title at the 2024 T20 World Cup. Under MS Dhoni, their most recent Champions Trophy title came in 2013; they defeated England in the final. India lost the final against their rivals, Pakistan, therefore failing in the 2017 version.

Here's a snippet of the light-hearted conversation between the fan and the two cricket players. Fans said:

“Sir abhi Champions Trophy jeetna hai bas Champions Trophy”

Shreyas Iyer reacted to the fan at the airport:

“(chuckles with Rohit) Sir Champions Trophy

Expressing severe security concerns, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly declared that they would not be sending the Indian team to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy. Fascinatingly, Sri Lanka—who had already been suggested as a host—is not included in the planned Champions Trophy event. With BCCI's declaration, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is now expected to render an official ruling on the case. The tournament is expected to be held in February 2025.
