India were reeling at 144/6 but from thereon, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja managed the proceedings and amassed a huge partnership of 199 runs. Ashwin registered his 6th Test century in the process, whereas Jadeja held out after scoring 86 runs. India put up a fair 1st innings score of 376 runs.

In reply, Bangladesh lost early wickets and were ushered out of the match by the Indian bowlers. Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with a 4-for and besides him Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Jadeja struck a couple of wickets apiece. Bangladesh bundled out at 149 rendering India a monumental lead of 227 runs.
