Shakib Al Hasan sparked a debate after cameras showed him that he was biting on his helmet strap during the 2nd Day of the Test Match in Chennai. Upon closer inspection, it was observed that it wasn't his helmet strap but a black string which was attached to the side of his helmet. Fans took it to social media as they were rather puzzled over the unusual scenario during the match as they debated on whether it was a tactic or just a usual practice.

During the live broadcast of the game, India veteran Dinesh Karthik revealed the mystery behind Shakib's practice on commentary. He was told by Tamim Iqbal that Shakib uses it as a self-assessment technique to make sure that his head stays up off his leg while taking stance and shots.
