Ind vs Ban: Mayank Agarwal wins massive praise from this Indian cricket legend

In his column for a leading news portal, Indian Test legend VVS Laxman praised Mayank Agarwal for his consistent and confident performance in Test cricket. Agarwal made his second Test double hundred only three matches after he made his first one against the Proteas last month. Agarwal scored 243 for India against Bangladesh at Indore and was adjudged the Player-of-the-Match for his spectacular performance.

Consistency and patience is the key: VVS Laxman

Laxman looked back at Agarwal's cricketing journey in his column and reflected on how, only two years ago, the Karnataka batsman was not even sure of his place in the state's first-class team and he is now making double-hundreds at the highest level. He lauded the effort that Agarwal had put into his batting after taking care of his mindset and technical issues. Agarwal scored a 1000 runs in a single month of first-class cricket in November 2017 and continued to put up match-winning performances since then. This may very well be credited as the reason behind Agarwal's success in Test cricket.

Laxman gave great credit to Agarwal's patience, due to which he has managed to create double-hundreds out of the hundreds he got in the last four Tests that he has played for the country. Agarwal's 243 in the first Test was the knockout punch against Bangladesh, who could never recover against the strong Indian pace attack. Mohammed Shami picked up seven wickets along with Ravichandran Ashwin's 5 wickets and Umesh Yadav's 4 wickets respectively. India ended up winning the match by an innings and 130 runs in only three days of play.

India will now move on to play a historic game when they take on Bangladesh for the final Test under the lights at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. This will be the first time India and Bangladesh are playing a Day-Night Test. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is hoping to rejuvenate Test cricket in the country with this fresh approach to the longest format.
