Speaking of the game, on the second day of the rain-affected opening Test against New Zealand, Team India was bowled out for just 46 runs in their first innings, which became their lowest total in a home Test. The lowest score India has ever had at home was 75, which they achieved in 1987 in New Delhi against the West Indies.

After 31.1 overs, the Indian batting team folded due to their inability to handle the conditions. Up to five Indian hitters made a comeback without troubling the team's top scorer, Rishabh Pant , who scored 20 runs off of 49 balls.
