Ind vs SA: Records broken in the first Test match
IND vs SA first Test has seen a thrilling match between the finest teams in cricket. Many records were broken and here is a list of records team India broke.

India vs South Africa saw the most number of sixes hit in a Test match as a record 37 sixes were hit during the recently concluded Test in Vizag. The previous best was 35 during the Sharjah Test between New Zealand and Pakistan in 2014.

Ravichandran Ashwin became the joint-fastest alongside the legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan to 350 Test wickets. He is also the fastest Indian to get there - 66 matches. Senuran Muthusamy and Dane Piedt’s 91-run partnership for the 9th wicket is now the highest partnership for India vs South Africa. They broke the previous record partnership of 80 runs which was held by VVS Laxman and Anil Kumble.
Rohit Sharma also surpassed Rahul Dravid for most consecutive fifty-plus scores by an Indian batsman at home. Dravid had slammed six fifty-plus scores between 1997 and 1998 while this was the seventh time that Rohit went past that mark. His last seven Test scores in India read 127, 176, 50*, 65, 102*, 51* and 82. Ravindra Jadeja becomes only the third left-arm spinner with 150 wickets at home. The other two are Rangana Herath and Daniel Vettori.
India are now second on the list of most sixes hit in a Test match with 27 sixes. First on the list are New Zealand, who hold the record with 35 sixes against Pakistan in 2014 in Sharjah. Rohit Sharma also became the first Indian to get out stumped in both innings of a Test. Interestingly, he never got out stumped in his entire first-class career.
Ravichandran Ashwin's 27th five-wicket haul in Tests. Only Muttiah Muralitharan (45) has more 5-wicket hauls than Ashwin. Rohit Sharma hit 13 sixes and became the batsman to hit the most number of sixes in a Test. The record was previously held by Wasim Akram who had hit 12 sixes.
Rohit Sharma became the first batsman to score hundreds in each innings of in his first Test as an opener. Rohit Sharma became only the 6th Indian batsman after Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane to hit two hundreds in a Test. Keshav Maharaj conceded 318 runs thereby becoming the bowler who conceded most runs in a Test after Tommy Scott 374 vs England in Kingston and Jason Krejza 358 v/s India in Nagpur are the top 2 in the list. Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma became only the third Indian opening pair after Vinoo Mankad-Pankaj Roy and Rahul Dravid-Virender Sehwag to post 300-plus stand.
Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal (317) broke the record for the highest opening stand in India vs South Africa Tests, which was previously held by AC Hudson and Gary Kirsten (236) in 1996. Mayank Agarwal became only the 4th Indian after Dileep Sardesai, Vinod Kambli and Karun Nair to convert his maiden hundred into a double. Mayank Agarwal joined Sunil Gavaskar at the third spot on the list of Indian batsmen who have taken the least amount of innings for maiden double hundred. Karun Nair (3) and Vinod Kambli (4) are on top of the list.
