In the past few days, the Iceland Cricket Board has taken shots at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and its badly edited highlight packages which are posted on social media. The account is not verified on Twitter but looks to be legitimate keeping into consideration the status of cricket in Iceland. Let us take a look at the series of tweets which followed.

Repeated Digs at BCCI's Twitter

The account (@icelandcricket) started taking digs at the BCCI Twitter since the start of the first India vs South Africa Test, in the first week of October. The tweet pointed out the insufficient match highlights which the BCCI posts online. Contrary to other popular cricket boards like Cricket Australia and the ECB, BCCI does not upload too many highlights on universally accessible platforms like YouTube and Twitter. BCCI broadcast rights lie with the Star Network and their online platform Hotstar, which is the hub for proper match highlights. Hotstar is a region-locked platform and is not available to users outside India, this issue is something that comes up on online forums too as fans residing outside India are unable to watch full highlights. The account proceeded to post some funny tweets.

About Iceland Cricket

The Icelandic Cricket Team is not associated with the ICC and is sponsored by users of reddit.com/r/cricket who donate to help the team travel and play. The lack of official status in the team is depicted by their Twitter bio which reads "The world’s most popular amateur cricket team. Birthplace of cricket (919 AD)." The team's Twitter often indulges in making satirical tweets. They won their first ODI against Switzerland in 2018. The board aspires to gain affiliate membership of the ICC. They also have a YouTube channel which is just as informal.
