After an emphatic Day 5 victory in the opening match of the series, Team India will be looking to continue their dominance over the visiting South Africans in the second Test as well. The Proteas cricket team is currently on a tour to India for a three-match T20I series and three-match Test series. The T20I series ended in a 1-1 draw last month after the opening game ended in a wash-out in Dharamshala. The second Test started on Thursday at the MCA Stadium in Pune with the hosts leading the series 1-0 after their 203-run win in Vishakhapatnam. The ongoing Freedom Trophy Test series between two nations also forms a part of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship. The Virat Kohli-led side currently leads the Championship points table while the visitors are yet to make a mark in standings.

Kohli won the toss and decided to bat first. The Indian openers started cautiously as they saw through the new ball for the first ten overs. However, Rohit Sharma, who scored twin centuries in the previous Test, could not convert his start to a big score this time as he nicked one to de Kock off Rabada at 14. Sharma’s stay at the crease lasted for 35 balls and the opener could manage only one boundary in his innings. He was replaced by Cheteshwar Pujara, who joined Mayank Agarwal on the other end to steady the Indian ship.

The duo stitched together an unbeaten 52-run partnership with Agarwal remaining not out at 34 off 80 balls. Pujara batted in his usual defensive way as the stylish right-hander headed into lunch at 19 off 39 balls. Eleven boundaries were scored in the 25-overs opening session of the day as the hosts will resume their innings post-lunch at 77-1.
