Ind vs SA 2nd Test: Agarwal smashes century as India end Day 1 on top

After winning the first Test by 203 runs, Team India will be looking to exert their dominance once again as they face South Africa in the second Test. The Indian team are currently on an unbeaten streak at home, winning 10 series in a row since 2013. With a win in the ongoing Test, the hosts will create a world record of winning 11 consecutive series on home soil. The second Test started today at the MCA Stadium in Pune with the hosts leading the series 1-0, following a thumping 203-run win in Vishakhapatnam.

After India lost Rohit Sharma for 14 earlier in the day, opening batsman Mayank Agarwal and India’s number 3 Cheteshwar Pujara formed an unbeaten 52-run partnership to see off India safely till the lunch break, at which India's score stood at 77-1 in 25 overs. The two batsmen stretched the Indian score to 163 before Pujara fell to Rabada at the stroke of tea. Pujara had brought up his 22nd Test half-century as the right-hander scored a stroke-filled 58 off 112 balls. After losing Pujara, Agarwal was then joined by Indian skipper Virat Kohli to the crease.

On 87, Agarwal smashed back-to-back sixes off Keshav Maharaj’s bowling as the Karnataka-based batsman got to 99 in style. In the very next over, the batsman steered a boundary past slips to bring up the second Test century of his career. Agarwal was finally dismissed for 108 off 195 balls. All three Indian wickets to fall in the day were picked up by South Africa's leading paceman Kagiso Rabada. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane batted out for the next 24 overs before bad light stopped play. Kohli, by bringing up his 23rd Test half-century, is unbeaten on 63 while vice-captain Rahane is batting on 18. At Stumps on Day 1, India were 273-3 after 85.1 overs.
