The South African team was off to a torrid start in the ongoing Test as the Indian openers smashed them all over the park on Day 1 and Day 2. After a breath-taking opening stand of 317 runs, Mayank Agarwal went onto convert his maiden Test century into a double ton as Team India declared at 502-7. The visitors lost three quick wickets at the end of Day 2 to be left reeling at 39-3. However, some late resurgence from South Africa’s lower order and sparkling centuries by Dean Elgar and Quinton de Kock ensured the visitors avoid follow-on and end Day 3 at 385-8.

Day 4 Lunch updates
The South Africans resumed their innings on Day 4 at 385-8. And 11 runs later, the visitors lost one of their overnight batsmen Keshav Maharaj who became Ashwin’s sixth victim in the innings. A 35-run final wicket stand ensured that the tourists crossed the 400-run mark as they reduced the gap between two teams to 71 runs. The Proteas were finally dismissed at 431 with Ravichandran Ashwin taking a total of 7 wickets in the innings. Ashwin’s 7-145 now takes his Test career tally to 349 wickets, just 1 wicket shy of becoming the 4th Indian bowler to complete 350 wickets in the longest format.
India started their second innings cautiously. However, they lost their first innings-centurion Agarwal for just 7. At 21-1, Cheteshwar Pujara joined Rohit Sharma to the crease to see India through the lunch. The duo safely negotiated the remaining few overs as India ended their first session at 35-1 in 14 overs.
As play for post-lunch session began just a few minutes ago, India are currently 40-1 at the end of their 17th over, and they lead the visiting team by 111 runs.
