The visiting South African team were off to a torrid start in the ongoing Test match against India as Indian openers smashed them all over the VDCA Stadium on the opening two days of the ongoing Test. After an exhilarating opening stand of 317-runs, Mayank Agarwal went onto convert his maiden Test century into a double as Virat Kohli declared India’s score at 502-7. The visitors then lost three quick wickets at the end of Day 2 to be left reeling at 39-3. However, some late resurgence from South Africa’s lower order and sparkling centuries by Dean Elgar and Quinton de Kock ensured the visitors avoid follow-on as they posted 431 in their first innings.

As the play resumed for the post-tea session, Rohit Sharma reached the fifth Test century of his career and his second of the match. Pujara, however, could not keep up with the same free-flowing momentum as the right-hander was trapped in front of stumps by Vernon Philander.
