Indian cricket team, who lead the ongoing Freedom Trophy series 1-0, ended Day 1 of the second Test with another dominating exhibition of batting. Virat Kohli, who won the toss on a bright Thursday morning in Pune, decided to put South Africa into the field. Indian openers could not repeat their Vishakhapatnam success as Rohit Sharma fell earlier in the day for 14. Mayank Agarwal slammed his second century of the series and of his career before he fell to swinging Rabada delivery. Team India ended Day 1 on 273-3 after bad light stopped play at 85.1 overs. The ongoing three-match Test series between two nations also forms a part of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship. The Virat Kohli-led side currently leads the Championship points table while the visitors are yet to make a mark in the standings. Last month, the Proteas started their Indian tour with a 3-match T20I series which ended in a 1-1 draw.

At 273-3, overnight batsmen Virat Kohli (63*) and Ajinkya Rahane (18*) resumed the Indian innings on Day 2. The Indian captain and vice-captain batted through the entire first session without losing their wickets. The two batsmen have formed an unbeaten 158-run partnership as the hosts look all-set for a big first-innings total. Rabada, who picked all three Indian wickets for the visitors on Thursday toiled hard in Friday's morning session without further success. Captain Kohli brought up his first Test century of 2019 and 26th of his career when he smacked Philander for a straight-drive. Kohli is currently unbeaten on 104 off 183 balls with 16 boundaries to his credit.
