South Africa barely managed to get off the field without being bowled out, as they struggled to 132-8 at the close of the day's play in Ranchi on Monday. Having lost six wickets by tea on Day three, South Africa struggled to keep the game alive, as tailender Anrich Nortje and concussion substitute Thenius de Bruyn kept the hosts at bay. Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav wreaked havoc on the Proteas batting line-up, picking three scalps and two scalps respectively. Further damage was done by Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, who picked a scalp each. With hopes of finishing off the game today, India tried its best to get a breakthrough before umpires called it a day after a light reading session.

Umesh Yadav baffles Faf du Plessis

It had happened in the morning session of Day 3 on Monday. On the penultimate delivery of the sixth over bowled by Umesh Yadav, he bowled a straight delivery after pitching it in the length of the onside as the Proteas skipper's attempt to defend that delivery was completely foiled as the ball went right through his defence and disturbed the timber. Faf headed back to the pavilion for a nine-ball single as the visitors reeled at 16/3. Meanwhile, Umesh Yadav became the first Indian fast bowler to pick 3+ wickets in five successive innings at home. His bowling figures in the last five innings are as follows: 6/88, 4/45, 3/37, 3/22 and 3/40 (in the ongoing match) respectively.

Pant replaces Saha

India's wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha walked off the field after he was hit on his fingertips by a delivery from Ravichandran Ashwin. In the 26th over, Saha was struck directly on his fingertips and chose to walk off the field after the physio examined his fingers. India's stand-in wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has replaced Saha on the field, making him the second substitute for a player in this session. Earlier, Dean Elgar was retired hurt after he was struck on the side of his head by Umesh Yadav following which he was ruled out of the match and de Bruyn was announced as his concussion substitute. India have left South Africa reeling in pressure and misery as they reduced the visitors to 67-6 after tea on Day three.
