Zaheer Khan said that water on the pitch changes dynamics and water going on the wicket through the covers is the last thing on your mind before the match.

1st T20I match between India and Sri Lanka at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday was called off due to a wet outfield. India had won toss and decided to field first. Rainwater reportedly seeped through leaking covers that were used to cover pitch. Some of it even got spilt on 22-yard strip due to errors made by groundstaff.

Former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan was upset with ground staff of Barsapara Cricket Stadium after match was called off by umpires post 9.30 pm IST. Speaking to official broadcaster, Zaheer Khan said that when re is water on wicket, it really changes dynamics of game. development left many shocked because rain stopped and in today's day and , water going on wicket through covers makes for embarrassment. Zaheer called it 'a bit disappointing' and opined that pitch wasn't covered properly.

Ind vs SL: Aakash Chopra slams authorities over poor preparation
Former player-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra also slammed staff at ground on air after match was called off. He said outfield is bone-dry and it’s a schoolboy error that water has seeped onto pitch. He furr added that perhaps re were a few holes in covers and preparation was really disappointing for an international game.

Even with Guwahati staff's best effort, opening Ind vs SL T20i match on Sunday was called off due to wet patches on track. Guwahati ground staff toiled hard to repair a damp pitch, but what grabbed eyeballs was staff using hairdryers, steam irons and vacuum cleaners to dry wet patches on pitch. rain lashed out 15 minutes before commencement of game after skipper Virat Kohli opted to bowl after winning toss. rain spell, however, lasted less than an hour yet ground could t be prepared in time. 2nd T20I between India and Sri Lanka will be played at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Tuesday. three-match T20I series between two teams is first campaign for Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team this year.
