IND vs WI: West Indies tamed down the Indian team by four runs in the first T20I match in Trinidad and Tobago. Hardik Pandya later churned out the positives.

Indi had to digest a bitter loss at the hands of the West Indies in the first T20I in Trinidad and Tobago. An awful batting display saw them crash to a four-run defeat as the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series. The Indian bowlers put up a good display restricting the hosts to 149 runs. The next T20I match is scheduled to be held at Providence Stadium.

IND vs WI: Tilak Varma played a valiant knock in India's loss to West Indies

Indian batsmen couldn't complement their bowlers as they made a mess of the target. Hardik Pandya and Sanju Samson were at the crease as India looked pretty much on course to their way to another win. But wickets started to fall on regular occasions and the Windies kept their nerve still to grind out a famous victory.

Amidst the gloomy affair, there were shining lights for the Men in Blue as Tilak Varma showed a glimpse of his brilliance in his first-ever international outing. The Mumbai Indians batsman scored a hefty 22-ball 39 which consisted of two fours and three sixes. If he had stayed for a longer time the outcome might have changed.

Mukesh Kumar also made his T20I debut for the Indian team but failed to make a mark as he conceded 24 runs in his 3 overs. However, after the match, Hardik Pandya lauded both Mukesh and Tilak's efforts. “Brilliant. First of all, Mukesh, to have the two weeks he has had here where he made is debut in all three formats is really good. Genuinely, he's a nice guy. He has a very good heart, a big heart, wants to contribute for the team. He bowled a couple of overs back to back and that was fantastic.

“Tilak - very pleasing to see the way he started his innings. Not a bad way to start your international cricket with a couple of sixes. You can see the confidence and the fearlessness they have. Going forward, they are going to do wonders for India."

Indian team earlier claimed the Test series 1-0 and followed it up with a 2-1 scoreline in the ODI series.
