India pacer reprimanded by ICC for aggressive gesture toward Pakistan player in T20 World Cup

The incident took place during the match between India and Pakistan in the Women's T20 World Cup on Sunday.

Indian bowler Arundhati Reddy has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for her aggressive gesture during a match between India and Pakistan in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday. The incident took place in the first innings of the game when the Pakistan team was batting. Reddy gestured toward Pakistan batter Nida Dar after dismissing her for 28 off 34 balls.

“She was found to violate Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match,” the ICC statement read.

 

India went on to win the match by 6 wickets with 7 balls remaining and Arundhati Reddy was named the Player of the Match for her bowling performance. Reddy picked up 3/19 in her quota of four overs, helping India restrict Pakistan to a paltry score of 105/8 in 20 overs.

Apart from Arundhati Reddy, Shreyanka Patil contributed by taking two wickets under her belt. Renuka Singh, Asha Sobhana, and Deepti Sharma picked up one wicket respectively. Meanwhile, Nida Dar, Fatima Sana, and Muneeba Ali were the only batters from the Pakistan side to reach the double-digit mark, showing the extent of collapse.

India then chased down the target in 18.5 overs. Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Harmanpreet Kaur did the bulk of the scoring to help India edge Pakistan in the match. Harmanpreet Kaur suffered an injury toward the backend of the innings. following which she left the field in pain.
