Asia Cup 2025 will be held in India

The tournament will see participation from six teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and a sixth team that will be selected through a qualifying event. According to the Invitation for Expressions of Interest for the sponsorship rights document issued by the ACC, a total of 13 matches will be played during the tournament. This format change aligns with the T20 World Cup schedule, making it a crucial preparatory event for the teams involved.

While the exact dates for the tournament are yet to be finalized, it is being reported that the tournament could be held in September, once the monsoon season in India has concluded. This timing would provide optimal playing conditions and allow for a smooth organization of the event.

In the previous edition of the Asia Cup, the tournament was held in a hybrid format, with some matches hosted in Pakistan and India playing all its fixtures in Sri Lanka. Led by captain Rohit Sharma, India emerged victorious, defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo to clinch the title.

In addition to the 2025 edition, the ACC has also announced that the Asia Cup will revert to the 50-over format in 2027, with Bangladesh hosting the event. This alternating format approach ensures that the tournament remains relevant and prepares teams for both T20 and ODI formats at the international level.
