Shreyas Iyer has made it back to the India squad but the injury concerns are still following him. An ex-cricketer has given a blunt take on Iyer.

Following a long injury layoff, Shreyas Iyer received a call-up for the Asia Cup 2023 and has been included in the provisional squad for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. While he is expected to provide solidarity in the middle order but as things stand the injury issues are not over yet. Iyer is not a part of the playing XI that is contending 2-day affair against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 stage. Ahead of the match it was reported that Iyer has got a back spasm and will sit out in the high-pressure game.

Shreyas Iyer's plight continues
As the period of marquee tournaments have begun, the selectors have shown faith in Shreyas Iyer, despite his inconsistent featuring and constant injury concerns. Iyer made it the playing XI in Team India's first match in the Asia Cup 2023, and scored 14 runs. He looked fairly comfortable against the quickies of Pakistan, but could not capitalise on the start. He played the second match as well but could not bat as India won the match by 10 wickets against Nepal. However, the physical complications came forward again as he missed the third match due to a back spasm.

Sanjay Manjrekar impressed yet doubtful about Shreyas Iyer
Sanjay Manjrekar, who keeps a keen eye on all the matters relating to cricket is impressed with the fitness of Shreyas Iyer but at the same time expressed fret over how his constant issues could cost Team India. Here's what he said about Iyer.
“I am just intrigued by Shreyas Iyer’s fitness if that’s the case. He has had a long layoff. The big story was Shreyas Iyer is fit nowadays, he played the first two games. He looked good in that game against Pakistan, scored 20-odd runs. And now he has got a back spasm," Manjrekar said on Star Sports

"You know you have got to start looking at players if they are going to be such an issue for the captain, the team management. They have been so patient, waiting for him to come back in the first match," he added.
However, Manjrekar called Iyer’s injury unfortunate as it made him sit out from a crucial clash in Asia Cup 2023. “He was there for the second game. But he has missed out due to back spasm. That’s unfortunate, it’s a forced change," he added.
