IPL 2020: The cash-rich league is the biggest T20 tournament in the world with grand opening ceremonies. But this year BCCI has scrapped the opening ceremony.

Indian Premier League (IPL) is biggest franchise-based T20 tournament in world. Every year, opening ceremony of league is exhilarating with performances of artists from across globe. But w in a major development, BCCI has reportedly decided to scrap IPL opening ceremony which h previously cost m around Rs 30 crore.

Opening ceremonies a 'waste of money': BCCI official

According to a leing media network, this was one of key decisions taken during IPL governing council meeting on Monday. Speaking to network, BCCI official said that opening ceremonies were a waste of money as cricket fans didn’t seem to be interested and performers h to be paid a lot.

A number of Bollywood celebrities and international pop stars, like Katy Perry, Akon and Pit Bull have performed at IPL opening ceremonies amid glaring fireworks and laser shows.

In meeting, several decisions regarding upcoming season were taken. possibilities of having a special '-ball umpire', became talk of town in cricketing community. On '-ball umpire' decision, official said that last season several players were given out and later recalled when replays showed bowlers h overstepped. idea was to reduce errors and controversies.

IPL opening ceremony of 2019 edition was scrapped to hour those who h lost ir lives in Pulwama terror attack. However, w it seems like board has taken a final call to scrap ceremony once and for all.

auction is set to take place on December 19 and  preparations for showpiece event have alrey started. IPL is likely to start from April 1 and could end by May 30. However,  thing to watch out for will be wher BCCI keeps a 15-day window between end of IPL and India’s next assignment. After taking over reign, this is first time that new committee will man  operations related to IPL.
