IPL 2020: CSK to reopen closed MA Chidambaram stands after talks with TN government

IPL 2020: In a recent development, CSK fans have got a reason to rejoice as their home venue, the Chepauk's three stands can be opened ahead of the mega event.

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had some issues going on with ir home venue MA Chidambaram Stadium in past couple of years. But in a recent development, CSK fans have got a reason to rejoice as Chepauk's three stands can be opened ahead of IPL 2020. It comes as great news for franchise's manment considering that gate receipts play a major role in a team's financial health in competition.

IPL 2020: 3 closed stands reopened in  MA Chidambaram Stadium

CSK have been one of most popular T20 franchises across world.  MA Chidambaram Stadium, which is also kwn as Chepauk Stadium, is  home venue of CSK as well as Tamil Nadu cricket team. It has hosted several international matches over years. It also is India’s second oldest cricket stadium after Kolkata's Eden Gardens. In recent years, stadium has faced huge issues regarding its three stands which are I, J and K.

Supreme Court has ordered to demolish stands due to violations of regulations relating to public safety, Till that time, se three stands will also remain closed for spectators. While this issue has been continuously running from 2015, stadium lost hosting rights of IPL 2019 final.

However, w Madras Cricket Club (MCC) President R. Ramesh has said that gym of this stadium will be demolished soon and it will open up three closed stands for spectators. According to him, gym will be demolished in February and three restricted stands can be reopened for  IPL 2020.

Ramesh told a leading media network that y will apply to corporation and CMDA for permission to carry out demolition and y are sure y will grant permission since gym was t a part of any herit structure. He added that only two old squash courts,  club office, billiards room and  three buildings within MCC complex had been declared herit structures.

Ramesh added that Chennai should t, anymore, be denied international matches and IPL final because se three stands remained closed. He went on to say that  cricket fans of state are biggest winners and w y can have more spectators and more big matches at Chepauk.
