Punjab skipper KL Rahul has won the toss and has decided to chase.

Speaking ahead of the squad's first game in UAE, Rahul said that the team wants to go out there and give it their best without any added pressure. While the game will witness two young Indian guns locking horns as they lead their squads, it will also be a battle of maestros as Kumble's Punjab and Ponting's Delhi take on each other in Dubai on Sunday night. 

"Come game time, it is all about going and expressing yourself and enjoying whatever challenge comes our way," he said. 

 "I have never lived on hope or left anything to chance. As a team what we want to do is go out there and try to give it our best and try to enjoy and not put any pressure on ourselves," KL Rahul added in a video shared by the franchise just ahead of the clash.

As Punjab gear up to face Delhi in the second match of the IPL 2020, veteran Jamaican power-hitter Chris Gayle will be eyeing his next target to join David Warner and Virat Kohli in an elite list. Gayle is just 16 runs away from cross 4500 runs in the IPL having played 125 matches across the 13 seasons. Meanwhile, skipper KL Rahul will also be eyeing to complete 2000 runs in the IPL.

According to Accuweather, the temperature for the Delhi vs Punjab IPL weather forecast is expected to be around 34°C during the commencement of the match. The temperature will pretty much remain the same during the finishing stages (33°C at around 11:00 pm IST). Meanwhile, the humidity levels throughout the course of the match will hover around 63%. 

The pitch at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium is known for assisting batsmen in the shortest format of the game. However, in the first half of the match, the pitch is likely to offer some assistance to the spinners as well.

Delhi has suffered a huge setback ahead of their tournament opener against Punjab as one of their star pacers Ishant Sharma has injured himself during training on Saturday. Ishant is one of the players who has been retained by the Delhi franchise for the ongoing edition of the marquee tournament. He will have to be assessed before the start of their opening game on Sunday to see if he is fit to play.

'He did injure himself'

Speaking to ANI, a Delhi support staff member confirmed that while Ishant injured himself at training on Saturday, a final call will be taken before the game.

"He did injure himself while training yesterday, but we will see how it goes. We will assess his injury status before the game and will take a call accordingly. We have the medical team which takes a final call on these matters," he said.

Punjab and Delhi have faced each other 24 times across IPL seasons. Out of the 24 played, Delhi side has won 10 times while Punjab holds a superior record with 14 wins. In the last five matches, Punjab has continued its domination winning four out of them. 

Punjab will be locking horns against Delhi in the second match of the Dream11 IPL 2020 that will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Both teams will be hoping to add the first two points in this Northern derby this Sunday evening. Delhi will be led by the young and elegant Shreyas Iyer for the second straight season while KL Rahul has been appointed as Punjab's new skipper.

The Karnataka cricketer will be succeeding veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who had led the side in the previous two seasons. Ashwin specialist was released in last year's auctions after the 2014 finalists failed to reach the playoffs in the 2018 and 2019 editions and now he will be looking to prove a point or two when he wears the Delhi jersey this year. 

Coming back to the Northern derby, both teams seem to have their bases covered at the moment. Delhi who had finished third last year boast of having Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, and skipper Shreyas Iyer in their top-order. The addition of Ajinkya Rahane strengthens their batting in the middle-order. The 2014 finalists on the other hand have the likes of the explosive Chris Gayle, captain KL Rahul, and Mayank Agarwal in the top-three.

When it comes to the bowling department of the two teams, Proteas sensation Kagiso Rabade and Indian pace spearhead Mohammad Shami will be expected to deliver for their respective sides with the new ball in hand and at the same time, they would also be hoping to make it matter while bowling in the death overs as well. 

One X-factor that is common in both sides is their middle-order. If Delhi has Rishabh Pant who has the potential to hit sixes at will, Punjab has got Glenn Maxwell who can change the game single-handedly with his dynamic batting in the middle and death overs. 

Who will don the gloves for Delhi?

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen who will be donning the gloves for Delhi this time around as they have also roped in the Australian limited-overs wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey in their arsenal. Carey might be in the perfect frame of mind heading into the marquee tournament. He had scored a match-winning century in the series-deciding 3rd ODI against arch-rivals England at Manchester recently. The stumper and all-rounder Maxwell were involved in a 200+ run stand for the sixth-wicket after the Aussies were staring down the barrel at 73/5 chasing a stiff target of 303.
