IPL 2020 still uncertain despite BCCI welcoming government's new guidelines: Report

IPL 2020: The BCCI will be meticulously studying the new rules issued by the MHA before deciding to resume any kind of cricketing activities.

India entered into fourth phase of its lockdown on May 18, which will go on till May 31 due to coronavirus pandemic. However, re's a new set of guidelines issued by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which will relax restrictions on sporting events, allowing m to resume cricketing action behind closed doors. This means that IPL 2020, which was postponed indefinitely, could take place this year.

BCCI to study India lockdown 4.0 guidelines before deciding on resuming cricketing action

MHA has permitted use of stadiums and sports complexes but spectators won't be allowed.  BCCI welcomed government's decision but said it was untimely to think about IPL at this point. However, IPL 2020 can take place subject to travel restrictions being alleviated and a window being found for tournament, which BCCI postponed indefinitely in April due to COVID-19 crisis.

BCCI released a statement after India lockdown was extended until May 31. statement said that that board will be meticulously studying new rules issued by MHA before deciding to resume cricketing action. BCCI Treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal said in a statement that board has taken te of guidelines issued by MHA for containment of COVID-19 across country.

He added that taking into account restrictions on air travel and movement of people till May 31, BCCI will wait furr before organizing a skill-based training camp for its contracted players. Sourav Ganguly-led board reiterates that safety and well-being of its athletes and support staff is paramount and will t rush into any decision that can imperil India’s efforts in containing spread of virus.

statement furr read that  BCCI will study guidelines at state level and will work in sync with state cricket associations to chalk out a programme for skill-based training at a local level. BCCI officials will continue ir interactions with team manment and draw up a suitable plan for entire team once situation furr improves.

Indian team is slated to tour Sri Lanka in July, which includes three ODIs and as many T20Is. Speaking on series, Dhumal confirmed that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had written to BCCI, expressing its keenness to host that series. He added that, however, without approval from Indian government to travel, it is far too early to predict wher that series will go ahead as scheduled or t.
