IPL 2025: Zaheer Khan Leaves Mumbai Indians, Joins Lucknow Super Giants In A New Role
LSG have roped in Zaheer Khan as their new bowling mentor. The former India pacer has left Mumbai Indians to join LSG
IPL 2025: After Gautam Gambhir's departure from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in 2023, the Lucknow franchise has roped in his ODI World Cup winning teammate Zaheer Khan in a new role. Speculations were rife that the left-arm pacer will join the Lucknow franchise ahead of the eighteenth season of the IPL and now the franchise has confirmed his appointment. Zaheer Khan will join the like of Justin Langer in the Lucknow Super Giants Camp. Prior to this Zaheer was associated with the Mumbai Indians.
Zaheer Khan's Role In LSG
Zaheer Khan is joining KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as their mentor. Owner of LSG, Sanjiv Goenka addressed a press conference regarding the franchise's future and Zaheer's induction in the LSG family was one of the major announcements that he made. Zaheer is another Indian stalwart who is joining the franchise after Gambhir departed to don the Kolkata Purple and Gold.
Here's What LSG Said About Zak
In a move sure to excite the LSG Brigade, bowling legend Zaheer Khan is set to join our team as a mentor, taking on a crucial role in shaping our future. ZAK, now 45, represented India from 2000 to 2014 and inspired a generation of Indian cricketers with his spirited performances. He was the joint-highest wicket-taker in the 2011 ODI World Cup and played a key role in ending India’s 28-year title wait. His addition to our backroom staff brings a fresh dynamic as he joins forces with head coach Justin Langer and a formidable coaching team that includes Lance Klusener, Adam Voges and Jonty Rhodes. The former left-handed seamer, known to make the ball swing in both directions, is the most successful Indian fast bowler in Tests after Kapil Dev, with 311 wickets. He is also a veteran of 92 Tests, 200 ODIs and 17 T20Is. With Zaheer Khan on board, our boys will look to bounce back stronger in IPL 2025 after narrowly missing out on a playoff spot in 2024.
Zaheer Khan's Impact On Indian Cricket
Zaheer Khan's credential as a player do not need any validation. The former India player spearheaded the country's pace attack when Indian pace bowling did not have the kind of reputation as it has now. Khan was also India's main bowler in their 2011 World Cup winning captain.
