Three Indian players, who have been a part of Indian Premier League (IPL), are part of the player draft for the new season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) which will begin on December 11.
Manvinder Bisla, pacer Manpreet Gony and former Rajasthan Royals (RR) player Kumar Boresa have been included in the draft. Bisla is remembered for playing a magnificent knock in the final of the 2012 IPL which helped Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) claim their first IPL trophy.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is trying to raise the level and rebuild the image of BPL by planning to bring on board out-of-contract Indian players.
Due to match-fixing scandals and delay in payment of some foreign players, the image of BPL (which was launched in 2011) has been tarnished. This enforced the country’s cricket board to take control of the event and rename it as ‘Bangabandhu BPL’.
Here is a look at the BPL draft
According to a PTI report, BCB's President Nazmul Hassan said that they proposed to bring in Indian players who don't have a contract with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as they could play in principle. He added that he was not sure if they would get them in this BPL, but were hopeful of getting them in future. He assured that they were trying their best to get them in this BPL too.
According to reports, the BCCI does not allow any of its players to play in any Twenty20 league outside the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL). Gony and former World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh (after retirement) were rare exceptions who played in the Global T20 Canada this year.
The draft includes foreign cricketers with 95 English, 89 Pakistani and 44 Sri Lankan players.
