IPL Auction 2021: Deadline to complete player retention process for franchises is Jan 20

The franchises looking to retain players for IPL 2021 must complete the retention process by January 20 as reportedly confirmed by IPL COO & interim BCCI CEO

With mini-auction ahe of 14th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) inching closer, franchises looking to retain players must complete process by January 20. Indian players who don't have a contract and wish to be a part of auction will need to fill player auction agreement and submit it online on February 4 by 5 pm. originals can be sent by post till February 12.

'January 20'

In a mail sent to state associations, accessed by ANI, IPL COO and interim Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) CEO Hemang Amin explained whole process through which an Indian player (wher capped or uncapped) may register to be able to play in 2021 edition of cash-rich league. He ded that process wasn't applicable for players who have an ongoing contract or may get a contract extension prior to auction.

"Please te that this procedure does t apply to any Indian player who has an ongoing IPL Player Contract that may be extended prior to IPL 2021 Player Auction ( deline for franchises to complete this process is 20th January 2021)," he wrote.

What are formalities that need to be taken care of?

Meanwhile, it has also been explained that a player who is interested to participate in 14th edition of marquee tournament must express ir interest by logging in to online registration system after which y will need to take care of or important formalities as well.

"When above registration is initiated by state association, it will generate an email to player with ir login details so y can complete registration process. Once registered, in order to express ir interest in playing in IPL 2021, player should login to online registration system.

"y will be required to complete all fields and downlo and complete IPL 2021 Player Auction Agreement. Once completed, agreement must be uploed back to online registration system and original sent or delivered to ir respective state association. Please te physical signature of player is required on original auction agreement," he pointed.

Meanwhile, BCCI has also me it clear that y will t be dealing with any player nt or manr and all dealings will be done with state bodies and failure by a player to abide by rules will result in that player's name being withdrawn from auction list.

"Please te that, at this st of process, BCCI will only deal directly with state associations and at time will have any communication with player nts or manrs. Any failure by a player to abide by this will (unless BCCI in its sole discretion decides orwise) result in player's name being withdrawn with immediate effect from IPL 2021 Auction Register and/or IPL 2021 Auction List (as appropriate)," BCCI CEO explained.

How can U-19 cricketers register for auction?

Cricketers from U-19 category are also allowed to register for auction only if he is a part of any state association and has played at least one game in eir first-class cricket or in List A.

"An Indian U19 player may only register for IPL 2021 Player Auction if player is registered as a player with a State Association and has played in at least one match in eir First Class cricket or List A cricket. For 2021 Season, a U19 player is one who was born on or after 1 April 2002," mail said.

"Any uncapped player who has retired from domestic cricket can only submit his auction agreement for player registration after getting written approval from BCCI."
