IPL franchise owners vow to adhere to Health Min's directives, fight COVID-19 together

The owners of the franchises of the Indian Premier League & the BCCI members met on Saturday, a day after the IPL was postponed to April 15 amid COVID-19 threat

BCCI & IPL chairman adhered to directives issued by Health Ministry which has asked NSFs, including BCCI, to avoid organizing sporting events where re is large public garing and conduct games behind closed doors if games were unavoidable. With major sporting leagues around world being called off and postponed, Indian Premier League too suffers same fate.

Franchise owners vow to fight COVID-19 toger

Franchise owners, however, hailed decision and have vowed to join hands to closely monitor situation and combat COVID-19 virus. Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan took to Twitter to give an insight into what happened in meeting between franchise owners and BCCI and said that safety of spectators and players was ir first priority and vowed to adhere to directives issued by Health Ministry. Shah Rukh Khan hoped that virus would subside soon and that BCCI would keep a close watch on situation along with franchise owners.

IPL postponed

A statement was released on Friday afteron which quoted BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and stated, " Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend IPL 2020 till 15th April 2020, as a precautionary measure against ongoing vel Coronavirus situation." BCCI is concerned and sensitive about all its stakeholders, and public health in general, and it is taking all necessary steps to ensure that, all people related to IPL including fans have a safe cricketing experience. cricket body will work closely with Government of India along with Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and all or relevant Central and State Government departments in this regard.
