IPL: All you need to know about Andrew McDonald, the new RR coach

Former Australia all-rounder Andrew McDonald has been roped in by Rajasthan Royals as their new head coach on a three-year contract, replacing Paddy Upton.

Former Australia all-rounder Andrew McDonald has been roped in by Rajasthan Royals as ir new head coach on a three-year contract. McDonald has previously played in IPL for Delhi Daredevils (2009 and 2011) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (2012 and 2013). He was also bowling coach of RCB. McDonald replaces Paddy Upton, who was only appointed before start of previous season. McDonald's first assignment as head coach of RR will be at IPL auction, which is scheduled for December 19 in Kolkata.

Ranjit Barthakur, executive chairman of Rajasthan Royals, said in a press conference that y were delighted to appoint McDonald as ir head coach. He shares ir belief of discovering potential and championing dreams and is aligned with ir vision to continue to drive invation in IPL. McDonald will be preparing for season by sharing his experiences and best practices with exceptional coaches in or sports and will be visiting India in near future to meet Royals team, both on and off field.

McDonald's appointment comes at a time when RR are struggling to get going in competition despite having big names like Ben Stokes, Steve Smith & Ajinkya Rahane.

McDonald has four Tests for Australia in international cricket between January-March 2009. After gaining an experience of playing 100 List A matches, he went on become head coach of his home state side, Victoria as he guided m to Sheffield Shield title in his very first year. Victorian moved on to BBL side Melbourne Renegades in a similar capacity last season and helped m win BBL title as well, making his appointment potentially a good omen for Royals.
