AB de Villiers' big revelation on Delhi Capitals
AB de Villiers, a former batsman for South Africa, has had an incredible career playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, the three-time IPL finalists. De Villiers did, however, play for the Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals) prior to joining the RCB. De Villiers was released by the Daredevils ahead of the 2011 Indian Premier League auction, and Royal Challengers Bangalore later picked him. After retiring from IPL in 2021, AB de Villiers is currently seen on his YouTube channel offering guidance and breaking down cricket plays.
AB de Villiers has revealed some startling information about his previous IPL team ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction. He has claimed that he was informed he would be retained ahead of the IPL 2011 auction. But the renowned batsman and wicketkeeper was released by the franchise ahead of the auction, and he eventually went to RCB.
When I played in the 2010 season, I got called into the office and was told ‘you are going to get retained, young AB de Villiers’. I sat alongside David Warner in that meeting. It came as a huge surprise to me a week or two later when I realised I had been released. So the communication wasn’t great back in the day, that must be different these days but it’s not a nice feeling.
