The IPL 2025 will be a grand affair with the mega auction all set to take place next year. The new retention policy for the 2025 season has been put in place and some bumper revelations have also been made. New retention rules have enhanced the excitement for the 2025 season, and this time, the BCCI and IPL's governing body have launched a crackdown upon the players who withdraw from the tournament right before the IPL season begins. A big rule has been put forth, which will help curb the instances.

IPL Sets Stringent Rules for Players Who Back out Ahead of the Tournament Despite Commitment Ahead Of 2025 Auction

After a lot of international players withdrew from the IPL 2024 season because of their own reasons, the governing body has introduced new mandates to help accessibility and maintain a streamlined process for player availability. One of the biggest example is Jason Roy, who pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons, leading to Phil Salt coming in to replace him.

The IPL governing council has announced the new retention policy ahead of the mega auction for the IPL 2025 season. New regulations have been introduced, which will be implemented for international players. It has become mandatory for every foreign players hoping to play in the IPL to register for the 'Big Auction' ahead of the season. If they didn't, their IPL career might be delayed by a year and they wouldn't be able to participate in the auction the following year.

The league has also imposed more stringent rules on players who commit but later back out ahead of the tournament. If a player registers for the auction, is selected by a franchise, and then withdraws before the season commences, they will be banned from the contest and cannot register for the future auction for two consecutive seasons.

This new policy will protect teams from last-minute obstacles brought on by unexpected player unavailability, and it will attempt to guarantee that franchises receive players reliable and faithful.

Apart from the aforementioned rule, the teams could retain six players, and they will keep their core team with retention or the RTM card. The new rules will bring in more competitiveness among the teams, which will assure more thrill in the tournament and among the franchises.
