IPL 2025 Mega Auctions: The Indian Premier League's buzz has skyrocketed after the announcement of player retentions. There were a few surprises in the likes of Rishabh Pant , KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer not being retained by their respective franchises, but this has made the IPL Mega Auctions nothing but more interesting. Playing Test cricket is no joke and it takes a huge toll on a player's body. English Test skipper Stokes in the past has been vocal about prioritizing Test cricket above anything else. Considering the fact that England host India right after IPL 2025 for a five-match Test series, skipper Stokes has decided to give the IPL 2025 mega auctions a miss. But his decision will have a huge repercussion considering the new auction rules that the IPL governing council and the BCCI have in place.

According to the new rules introduced by the BCCI, if any overseas player, capped or uncapped, doesn't register himself for the mega auctions, then he won't be eligible to enter the auction pool in the following year's player auction. This means that Stokes will not feature in the IPL in 2026 too.
