Bengal fast bowler Ishan Porel grabbed headlines after he picked up a 5-wicket haul in the recently-concluded Deodhar Trophy final on Monday. The left-arm pacer was at his accurate best as he picked up 5/43 accounting for the wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Parthiv Patel, Kedar Jadhav, Vijay Shankar and Nitish Rana. Porel had an excellent Deodhar Trophy, picking up 9 wickets in the three matches he played.

Ishan Porel: Yet another U-19 champ
Ishan Porel rose to prominence after his performance in the 2018 U-19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand. Porel along with fellow speedsters Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi garnered a lot of attention for their quality performances in the tournament. Porel injured himself in the first game of the tournament after bowling just 4.1 overs. However, he recovered and made a comeback in the latter stages of the tournament. He picked up 4/17 in the semi-final against Pakistan, that instantly made him a star.

Ishan Porel: One for the future
Ishan Porel made his List-A debut against Andhra Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2016-17. He made his first-class debut as an 18-year old for Bengal against Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy 2017. Porel picked up 4/139 as Vidarbha scored a massive 499, helping them win the contest by 10 wickets. He picked 9 wickets in the 7 matches he played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The Bengal pacer is one of the rising fast bowlers in the country. Porel’s accuracy and ability to keep runs in check make him a valuable asset, especially in the shorter formats of the game. He would hope to continue his good form in the upcoming edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, India’s premier domestic T20 competition.

Ishan Porel: IPL calling?
Porel’s rise to form comes at a perfect time with the IPL auctions set to take place in December this year. With quality Indian fast bowlers always in demand, Porel would hope to be picked by one of the franchises. The Bengal pacer would hope that his home team Kolkata Knight Riders show faith in him, considering the fact that KKR have invested heavily in three of his U-19 colleagues - Shubman Gill, Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti.
