Suryakumar Yadav tried and tested at different batting positions

The world No. 1 T20 batter Suryakumar Yadav made his ODI debut for team India in 2021 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma but has found it tough to provide India solidity in ODIs in their build-up to the World Cup, failing to record a single half-century in 20 matches between February 2022 and August 2023.

During his last assignment in the West Indies, Suryakumar was pushed down to No. 6 and with the preferred No. 4 choice Shreyas Iyer returning to the national team for the Asia Cup, it is possible that ‘Sky’ would have to stick to his new role.

Suryakumar Yadav looking forward to 'crack the code'

During an interaction in 'Follow the Blues' Show on Star Sports, Suryakumar Yadav opened up on his difficulties with ODI format, and recently during the Carribean tour also he admitted that his ODI numbers were not good. Ahead of Asia Cup 2023, Suryakumar Yadav spoke in detail about his role in the upcoming event and said;

"I will try and perform the role assigned to me. This is one format I am really looking to do well. Everyone keeps saying that my T20 is going well but why can't I crack the ODI code? That's the exact word but I am practicing. I feel this is the most challenging format. You need to play all three formats in one – first with patience, then strike rotation and hit towards the end like T20 type."

"I have been speaking with Rahul sir, Rohit, and Virat so hopefully I will 'crack this code' starting this tournament. At least I am trying to maintain the same intent and approach. That shouldn't change, but I'm trying to play more according to the situation. For example, if I am coming to bat in the 30th over, I can't play like a T20I."
