'Jadeja told me MS Dhoni indicated his intention to retire after IPL 2021': CSK CEO

MS Dhoni's sudden decision to step down as Chennai Super Kings captain just a couple of days before CSK vs KKR IPL 2022 opening match took everyone by surprise. former CSK skipper who led team to title win last season has w handed reign to Ravindra Jadeja who will be leading an IPL team for very first time. Both MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja have been playing toger with CSK team for quite some time and it was surprise to see transition being done so smoothly. CSK social media team posted a video on Saturday, where CEO Kasi Vishwanathan speaks about MS Dhoni's decision to leave CSK captaincy.

CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan while revealing details said, " We spoke to Ravindra Jadeja during practice and yes he said that MS Dhoni had indicated to him after last year's IPL that he needs to take more responsibilities. He had also indicated that at one point of time you may have to take over as captain and fact that he will be playing alongside him in matches it will be helpful for Jaddu also to get inputs from MS and it should be o great help to him. Jadeja has been a consistent player for CSK for past 8 years and I think it will be a good change for  team."

Talking about Dhoni's decision to step down as skipper he said, "When I heard news I was a little surprised as I didn't expect that to come from MS Dhoni at this point of time. Whatever MS Dhoni does as far as CSK is concerned he will do it in best interest of franchisee. He is being one of most important players, a captain, a wicketkeeper an allrounder for CSK. I think whatever decision he makes will be right decision for CSK because he has interest of team most in his mind. decision he has come up with may t be sweet for ors but good for franchise. MS Dhoni will always be re t only for fans but guiding team as well".

CSK vs KKR preview

opening match at Wankhede stadium will see two new captains with Ravindra Jadeja donning captain's hat for CSK, while Shreyas Iyer will be leading KKR team on his home ground. match is expected to be a great contest between bat and ball as pitch in Mumbai has usually aided  batsmen with pacers also extracting something from pitch. With 22-yard strip being made out of red soil team batting second is likely to have an advant. Besides pitch, dew factor will also be taken into consideration so toss will be crucial for both teams. Coming to players' availability, CSK will be missing one of its key pacers, Deepak Chahar for first few games this season. KKR will also miss services of its key pacer Pat Cummins as Australian bowler is currently in Pakistan for a bilateral series.
