Jimmy Neesham has had a forgettable 2019 so far. He was involved in two nerve-wracking super overs but unfortunately, his side ended up on the losing side on both occasions and that too against the similar opposition England. The earlier occasion was the all-important World Cup final and the latest one was the fifth and final T20I on Sunday which was a decider. The hosts suffered a nine-run loss at Eden Park as England sealed the series 3-2. However, it seemed like Jimmy Neesham desperately wanted a revival in fortunes after yet another instance of 'So Near Yet So Far'.
Jimmy Neesham on the change in the script
Taking to social media after a heartbreaking loss, Jimmy Neesham asked the fans whether there was any chance of a change in the script. In the image, Neesham and a few of his team-mates can be seen with crestfallen faces while three of them are all smiles even after what had happened just like their skipper Kane Williamson who was smiling despite losing the World Cup final at Lord's back in July.
James Neesham's reaction says it all
Having sought good control over England's batsmen after having set a target of 147 runs, New Zealand were well on their way to a victory before Chris Jordan crashed the party and brought some fireworks. In just three balls, Chris Jordan changed the fortunes for his team and landed more misery on Neesham's head as he was bowling the last over. As soon as Chris Jordan dispatched a low full-toss to the fence off the last ball of the over, Neesham was spotted bearing a 'say-it-all' expression on his face, a familiar ground where he dreaded stepping foot in. Neesham had earlier muted the words 'England', 'World Cup', '2019' after New Zealand's loss to England in the semi-finals of the rugby World Cup.
England snatch another win in Super Over
Jonny Bairstow's quickfire 47 off 18, laced with five sixes and two boundaries, got England off to a flying start before the hosts put the break on the visitors' momentum. Requiring 16 runs off 6 balls, Chris Jordan smashed 12 runs off three balls to help England reach 146 runs and tie the game. For the second time in four months, fans witnessed yet another super over, this time in the shortest format of the game, to decide the winner of the contest. With England being sent to bat first in the super over, Eoin Morgan and Jonny Bairstow hit a six each as they helped the visitors post 18 runs in six balls. New Zealand's Tom Seifert and Martin Guptill failed to hit any big shots off a disciplined super over from Chris Jordan, thereby handing England a comfortable 9-run win over New Zealand.
