Former Sunrisers coach makes a huge statement about the SRH bowler
Due to his rapid bowling speed, Umran Malik is one of the most intriguing Indian cricketers of the past few years. Sunil Gavaskar stated that Umran's entrance into the sport thrilled him as much as watching a young Sachin Tendulkar bat. Umran is well-known in the IPL, but he had to patiently wait for international cricket.
The 23-year-old made his debut during India's tour of Ireland in June 2022. Since then, he has participated in 10 One-Day Internationals and eight T20 Internationals, accumulating 13 ODI wickets and 11 T20I wickets. Umran, on the other hand, has never featured in a Test match and has participated in only seven first-class matches throughout his career.

Umran had an outstanding IPL season in 2022. In 14 matches, he claimed 22 wickets with an average of 20.18 and an economy rate of 9.03. The following season, 2023, however, Umran's performance declined. In eight games, he only claimed five wickets, giving him an economy rate of 10.85 and a batting average of 43.40.

What did Brian Lara say about the fast bowler?
Talking on the Youtube channel 'Wake Up With Sorabh', the West Indies legend stated:
“He will be a sensation, but very quickly he will have to learn that fast bowling really does not trouble the best players in the world. You have to have the ability to do something with the ball, be sensible, and maybe understand times when you have to trickle back or understand the times when you have to up the tempo. He is very young and has got a lot of years ahead of him,”
“We have had so many different examples. Wasim Akram was raw pace, Malcolm Marshall had destructive pace, and Michael Holding. But they all know that at some point in time, they had to come with a lot more tricks than just being able to bowl fast. If he (Umran Malik) works with Dale Steyn, he could definitely be one of the best India could produce.”
Umran Malik would need to quickly figure out different ways to topple the batters as opposition might have found out his strengths and now even his former coach is stating that the Indian pacer needs to add other things to his repertoire as speed alone won't get him to the top.
