Kapil Dev believes Indian parents began instilling values of sport post 1983 World Cup win
Former cricketer Kapil Dev believes that their victory in 1983 World Cup final inspired parents in the country to teach the value of sports to their children.

Indian cricket team, under leadership of Kapil Dev, defeated West Indies in 1983 World Cup final on June 25, 1983. Speaking to ANI on occasion of 37th anniversary of achievement, former Indian captain talked about impact of ir victory on Indian parents. Kapil Dev is of opinion that ever since y won 1983 World Cup final, parents in country have started instilling value of sports in minds of ir children.

Kapil Dev on impact of 1983 World Cup final win
Kapil Dev described winning 1983 World Cup final as a “wonderful thing” which led entire nation to celebrate accomplishment. Speaking on impact of tournament, he said win made a big difference in India as parents started to inculcate value of sports. He believed that India have been already producing doctors and engineers in large numbers because majority of Indian parents supported those professions much more before tournament. He added that any big achievement affects next generation and indirectly implied that 1983 World Cup final win made way for future legends of Indian cricket.
Kapil Dev talks about Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly and Sunil Gavaskar’s leadership
When asked about wher current Indian captain Virat Kohli feels pressure for t winning a World Cup yet, Kapil Dev believed that team is doing well and re is pressure at m at moment. He stated that Virat Kohli is doing a good job as a leader and one does t necessarily have to win a World Cup to be called as a good team.

Kapil Dev also spoke about Sourav Ganguly and Sunil Gavaskar’s contribution as captains of Indian cricket team. He said that both were great captains and even though y did t win coveted trophy, he implied that y shaped up ir teams well.

Interestingly, Sourav Ganguly’s team came close to lifting World Cup at 2003 event but y were handed a defeat in final by rampaging Australians. MS Dhoni’s men went one step furr in 2011 and ended 28-year old World Cup drought in front of ir home crowd in Mumbai.
