Kumble reiterates ban on use of saliva, suggests technique to maintain ball-bat balance

Anil Kumble reiterated his committee's recommendation of banning the use of saliva in the post-COVID games & said that there were alternatives to shine the ball

Former Team India spinner Anil Kumble reiterated his committee's recommendation of banning use of saliva in post COVID games and said that re were alternatives to make ball shine. ICC panel, led by Kumble, has recommended a ban on use of saliva to shine ball after cricketing activity resumes after a two-month-long hiatus due to coronavirus pandemic. Talking at a webinar organized by FICCI, Anil Kumble suggested a technique to counter use of saliva while also speaking on importance of injury manment as players take to field after a long gap.

'Play around pitch'

spin wizard suggested that cricketers should play around with pitch in order to bring about a fine balance between bat and ball. Much debate has ensued on ban of saliva as it is important to get ball to shine which in turn produces swing - an essential component in Test cricket, a little lesser in limited-over formats. However, with precaution being of utmost importance in post COVID world, Anil Kumble recommended idea of getting more spinners into line-up or by leaving more grass on surface.

Talking about use of or substances as an alternative to saliva, Kumble maintained that creativity would be taken out of game if use was permitted. Furr, former Indian coach said that stringent rules were followed for all se years to t allow use of or substances on ball and that it should continue. Kumble emphasized on need to train before heading on to play games without use of saliva as bowlers were used to doing so and that it required time to bring about change.

Ahead of possible resumption of international cricket, Anil Kumble pointed out that it will t be easy for players to regain form & fitness as sport resumes after a long break. Furr, spinner also pointed out need to focus on injury manment as many players would be returning after recovering from ir injuries and would need to be properly rehabilitated back into training. Kumble also stressed on importance to build ir skill level and confidence, which he believes will allow m to come on top.
