Rishabh Pant Left Out! Franchise Seeks New Skipper: DC's Possible Retention List Revealed
The Delhi Capitals' retention list ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction has been revealed, and they have retained four players in the team. The four names are Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Abhishek Porel and Tristan Stubbs. As surprising as it may sound, DC did not pick up Pant, who is one of the biggest fan-favourites in the team. Pant being kept off the list might be surprising, but it is being suggested that hectic negotiations were going on for the last one month and a complicated management structure led to Pant quitting the franchise for which he played for eight years and captained in three seasons.
Surprisingly, the GMR-led management is seeking to bring in KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer, who led the side to a title-winning season in 2024.

"Once GMR appointed Venugopal Rao as Director of Cricket and Hemang Badani as head coach, the writing was on cards. GMR is also in talks with Shreyas Iyer, under whom the team played its only final in 2020. Iyer is not going to play for KKR," a source tracking Delhi Capitals' development told PTI on the condition of anonymity on Wednesday.

According to reports, once the Kiran Grandhi-led management decided to get rid of Rishabh Pant, things couldn't be salvaged because people who know the cricketer said he was "hurt" by the turn of events. The DC management has a 'complicated structure' which allows each of the co-owners to run the team for two years.
"This is a complicated structure and it would always be counter-productive for a team. So once management came in hands of GMR, they overhauled it completely," the source said.

With Rishabh Pant possibly heading into the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, it is possible that the wicketkeeper-batter could receive huge interest. Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings could go the whole hog for Pant.
