Pat Cummins And Co. Gear Up For BGT Series As Australia Announce Squad To Play Against India

Australia have announced their squad for the five match Border-Gavaskar test series against India.

The highly awaited Border-Gavaskar test series that is played between India and Australia every year. The five match test series is of quite a lot of importance for both teams as the finals of the World Test Championship are all to play for the winner of the series. Australia have also announced a surprise entry into the squad to open the batting for the Aussies. Nathan McSweeney has been called up to the squad for the first test of the BGT series. 

Australia's Squad For The Border-Gavaskar Series 

Australia Test squad: Pat Cummins (capt), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Nathan McSweeney, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc

Australia have in their squad picked two uncapped players who will be playing against India. These two uncapped players are Josh Inglis and Nathan McSweeney. Nathan McSweeney will be the one who will be opening the batting for Australia if picked in the playing 11.

Former Australian Captain And Selector Gives Reasons Behind Squad 

According to George Bailey who is Australia's selection chair and former captain feels that the squad that has been picked for BGT is very well balanced and could perform well. 

"Nathan has displayed the attributes we believe will equip him well for Test cricket along with a strong recent record in domestic cricket. His performances for South Australia and Australia A weighed in his favour and supports our view he is ready for the opportunity at Test level.

"Similarly, Josh has been in great touch in the Sheffield Shield competition and deserves his place in his first Test squad. Scott has been a top-level performer when given the opportunity at the Test level and remains a valued member of the squad. The squad is balanced and provides Andrew and Pat the options required for what shapes as a captivating series," said George Bailey.
