Legal notice sent to restrain BCCI AGM; probe against President Ganguly & Secy Shah sought

The notice sent by Treasurer of the Jharkhand Cricket Association, Naresh Makani, has also proposed for conducting fresh elections to the BCCI in December 2020

With BCCI all set to huddle up tomorrow for 89th Annual General Meeting (AGM), a legal tice has been sent by a member of Jharkhand Cricket Association to restrict body from convening meet. Pointing out 'numerous discrepancies, illegalities and irregularities' present within BCCI, tice has sought an enquiry against apex cricket body, including interim President Sourav Ganguly and interim Secretary Jay Shah, and also suspension of scheduled AGM meeting on December 24. tice sent by Treasurer of Jharkhand Cricket Association, Naresh Makani, has also proposed for conducting fresh elections to BCCI in month of December 2020 itself. 

In tice sent to Registrar of Societies, dated December 21, 2020, Makani has highlighted that tenure of Ganguly and Shah h ended in month of May and June 2020, respectively. Pointing specifically at provisions as per new constitution of BCCI, he implied that aforementioned duo is t eligible to contest any furr elections without completing mandatory 'cooling-off' period.

'Illegal Manner'

"It is stated herein that entire process of elections is a face and is being conducted in an arbitrary manner with mala fide intent by office bearers whose tenure alrey stands expired. position of Vice-President of BCCI has been vacant since March 2020 as per kwledge of my client despite which said elections are being conducted which categorically enunciates upon modus operandi of present office-bearers as also manment of BCCI," tice res. 

Moreover, it accuses present office-bearers - Ganguly and Jay Shah - of occupying ir posts in an 'illegal manner' with 'mala fide intent' to serve ir personal interests. Makani has also invoked petition filed in Supreme Court by BCCI seeking an amendment to recommendations of Lodha Commission to allow Ganguly and Shah to continue holding ir posts. Pertinently, Naresh Makani has also raised questions over Ganguly's continual as BCCI President at previous occasions as well.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to conduct its Annual General Meeting in Ahmedab tomorrow. This will be national cricket board's 89th AGM. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has informed state bodies on Tuesday that Motara's Sardar Patel Stium will be venue of meeting. re will be RT-PCR tests on December 22 and results will arrive on 23rd keeping an eye on safety protocols. AGM was earlier postponed due to global pandemic. Some interesting matters such as cricket's inclusion in 2028 Olympics, 2021 World Cup & more are likely to be tabled in AGM.

BCCI's stand on inclusion of cricket in 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games is one of primary matters on nda at AGM alongside appointment of a BCCI representative to ICC. Approval on inclusion of two new teams in Indian Premier League is also listed in nda while BCCI will also look into 2021 T20 World Cup scheduled to be hosted by India.
