The 18th edition of Vijay Hazare Trophy started this week, and it also marked the launch of limited-overs matches for the ongoing Indian cricket domestic season. The 2019-20 Indian domestic season, which started with Duleep Trophy in August, will now move ahead with India’s premier One-Day domestic tournament that involves the teams from Ranji Trophy. Three-time winners and reigning champions, Mumbai won the previous edition in 2018-19 by defeating Delhi in the final. The ongoing edition will also see Chandigarh making their Vijay Hazare tournament debut.
Maharashtra vs Uttar Pradesh on September 26
Maharashtra
The Maharashtra One-Day unit enjoyed a prolific run in the league stage of the previous edition. They went on to win six matches out of their eight Group A games and ended up in the second place behind Ranji-veterans Mumbai. Their run was however derailed in the quarter-final by Jharkhand, who won the knockout game by eight wickets. Maharashtra will be looking to improve their previous outing by crossing the line in the knockouts. They started their 2019 campaign against Himachal on the opening day of the tournament, however, that game was called-off without a single ball bowled.
Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh had a forgettable outing in 2018, winning only one game out of their eight matches. With their lacklustre performance, they ended their Group B campaign eighth on the points table. The Samarth Singh-led side will be looking for a much-improved performance from last year if they want to entertain any chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals. However, just like Maharashtra, their 2019 campaign opener was also abandoned after 20.3 overs.
