Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024: India will tour Australia in November this year for the five-Test match BGT. India are the defending champions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the last time they toured Australia, they defeated the home side 2-1. Rubbing salt into the wounds of the Aussies, India have dished out two consecutive home series defeats for them (2018-19 & 2020-21). Australia, contrary to their reputation have lost four consecutive BGTs, two in India (2016 & 2023) and to at home.

Ravi Shastri Fires A 'Tracer Bullet'

At the forefront on Team India's two consecutive away BGT wins was Ravi Shastri , the former Head Coach of India. Once Ravi Shastri was handed over the reins of the Indian team in 2017, he always spoke about India becoming the best travelling team and by the end of his tenure he made it a reality.

While speaking on the ICC Review earlier this month, Shastri without any hesitation said that the Australians did not have their hands on the coveted Border-Gavaskar silverware almost for a decade. Shastri's comments came after Ricky Ponting's comments of Aussies defeating India 3-1. Now former Australia player and the winner of 2003 and 2007 ODI World Cup Matthew Hayden has given a hard-hitting reply to Shastri's comments.

'Look, I was seeing a reel from Ravi Shastri today on Instagram, and he was saying the Aussies hadn’t had the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in their hands for almost a decade. Well, that’s a fighting word straight away', said Hayden

India vs Australia Test Series: The Clash Of Heavyweights

The Ashes might be considered as the pinnacle of Test cricket, but the Border-Gavaskar Trophy easily surpasses that peak. For the past seven to eight years, India and Australia have easily been the top two Test teams. India vs Australia, in any series, events, white ball or red ball is a mouth-watering contest and the upcoming BGT isn't going to be any different.
