Mayank Agarwal reveals what he was thinking before notching up 200 in Sehwag-style

India's Test opener, Mayank Agarwal put on a spectacular show in the first innings of the first Test match between India and Bangladesh as the Karnataka lad notched up his second double century on the second day. Agarwal breached the 200-mark in style as he danced ahead to loft Mehidy Hasan's delivery right over long on for a maximum in a very Sehwag-like style. This was Mayank Agarwal's second double ton in the second consecutive test series, with the first one coming against South Africa earlier. While addressing the media at the end of the second day, Agarwal revealed what he was thinking when he was on 196* and inched closer to hit the double ton. Reportedly, he had not planned to hit the ball for a boundary but had decided to go for it if the delivery was pitched in his area.

'I thought I would give myself 4-5 overs'

Mayank Agarwal, while addressing the media said, "I was not thinking about that (hitting a six). I wasn't. I thought I would give myself 4-5 overs and I will not hit anything unless it is in my half because I was batting on 196. I picked a couple of strokes which as I said if it comes in this area or in my half then I thought I am going to go for it and I am going to play this stroke. It just happened that I was on 196 and the ball was in my area, so I just went for it and that went for six."

Indian batsmen continue to pile up runs on Day 2

It was a tiring day for the Bangladesh bowlers as they were smashed to all corners of the ground by the Indian batsmen. Even though they got rid of skipper Virat Kohli for a duck, they failed to rediscover their rhythm as Mayank Agarwal took India to a commanding position. The visitors could have dismissed Agarwal on Day 1 if Imrul Kayes had not dropped him at slips when he was batting on 32. Eventually, it proved to be very expensive as the opening batsman made the most of his reprieve. He went on to score a 330-ball 243 which included 28 boundaries and eight maximums. His magnificent innings came to an end when he was caught by Abu Jayed off Mehidy Hasan.
