Cricket has always been a sport known for its unique blend of skill, strategy, and sportsmanship. In the fiercely competitive world of international cricket, some teams stand out not just for their performance on the field but for their off-field demeanor as well. One such team is New Zealand, renowned for its polite and friendly approach, both on and off the pitch. However, not everyone sees it as an asset. Recently, former cricketers Michael Vaughan and Adam Gilchrist took a jibe at New Zealand for being too nice and, according to them, somewhat boring for the sport.

Vaughan takes a jibe at New Zealand

When it comes to cricket, New Zealand is often celebrated for its unconventional approach to the game. They are not the most aggressive or flashy team out there, but their dedication, team spirit, and commitment to fair play have earned them respect from fans and opponents alike. The Black Caps have consistently delivered solid performances in various formats of the game, including One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Test matches, making them a team to be reckoned with.

Michael Vaughan, the former English cricketer and captain, and Adam Gilchrist, the legendary Australian wicketkeeper-batsman, recently took a jibe at New Zealand on a YouTube channel. Vaughan humorously stated, "I don't think I've ever watched New Zealand thought, the wheels are even loose. The wheels never even come off. I like teams that, you know, England, the wheels come off every now and again. The Aussies, the wheels, well, they are off. I like that. They bring a little bit of a bit of a laugh. New Zealand, the wheels never come off."

Gilchrist chimed in, sharing a personal experience with the New Zealand team, saying, "I was actually in the airport lounge in Singapore with them when they were on their way over to the World Cup, and they were just too polite, too friendly. They were lining up, like allowing other people to access the food and the bar, the drinks. They weren't even drinking proper drinks. They were on softies. They wanted to make small talk with me in a really nice, genuine manner, and it's transferred into their cricket. And it's pretty frustrating, to be honest. They'll be in the final."

Vaughan then added, “There's no way a nice team can win a World Cup,” to which Gilchrist replied, “Shouldn't be allowed.”

New Zealand reached the final of the last two ODI World Cups and are currently unbeaten in the ongoing edition. New Zealand also reached the final of the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE.
