Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) announced the appointment of the vastly experienced Andy Flower as their new head coach, officially concluding the tenures of Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar. While Hesson served as the director of cricket operations, Bangar was the head coach, and both their contracts were up for renewal in September. However, the franchise decided to make a change and move on from the duo.

Mike Hesson posts emotional message for RCB fans

Expressing his sentiments on Instagram, Mike Hesson shared a heartfelt note with RCB fans and expressed his gratitude to the owners for the opportunity. He also expressed disappointment at not being able to lead the team to an elusive IPL title. Hesson wished the best of luck to the new head coach, Andy Flower, and reminisced about the fond memories he created with the players, support staff, and the passionate RCB fans.

Andy Flower, who previously guided Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to the playoffs in consecutive seasons, now takes over as the head coach of RCB. He has previous coaching experience with Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) as well. The T20 World Cup winning coach expressed his pride in joining RCB and acknowledged the work put in by Hesson and Bangar. He looks forward to the challenge of taking RCB to new heights in the IPL 2024 season.
