Mitchell Marsh made a remarkable comeback to the Australian Test side in the fifth and final Test match against arch-rivals England at the Oval on Thursday. Australia have retained the Ashes but another win would see them create history as they would win an Ashes series on English soil after a long wait of 18 years. Mitchell Marsh took 4/35 which included four maidens at an economy rate of 2.16 as England finished at 271/8 at the stumps by the end of Day 1. From once being a promising all-rounder to now fighting for a place in the national side, Marsh's journey has been filled with a lot of ups and downs.

Australian fans hate Mitchell Marsh

According to reports, Mitchell Marsh has revealed that he is hated by many fans in Australia for not consolidating his side in the national matches, in spite of getting so many opportunities by the team management. The Aussie all-rounder said that most of the people of his country hate him and the reason being that they are very passionate and love their cricket and want their people to do well. Marsh then admitted that he failed to utilise his opportunities at the Test level. However, the 2015 World Cup-winner was hopeful that the fans back home will respect him for the fact that he keeps coming back and loves playing for Australia. The 27-year-old is also confident that he will win the fans' hearts one day.

Mitchell Marsh's brilliant comeback in the whites

Mitchell Marsh, who is making his comeback to the red-ball cricket after almost a year took some important wickets which included the likes of Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, and Chris Woakes. Mitchell Marsh was the vice-captain of Australia in Tests in the 2018/19 season but a string of poor performances against Pakistan in UAE and India at home last year saw him getting dropped from the side.

Sacrificing millions to be a part of the Ashes series

Mitchell Marsh has made a sacrifice of millions to be part of the Ashes this year. The all-rounder had skipped the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction and gave up the opportunity to earn a multimillion-dollar contract to instead focus on playing in England, where the World Cup was played and where the Ashes are currently underway.
